Helping the population of homeless cats and dogs

Attention to females:

In a world where countless homeless animals roam the streets, addressing the root causes of their suffering is essential. Female dogs and cats are especially vulnerable among these animals due to their reproductive capacity. Our program offers these unfortunate creatures a healthier and better quality of life when they return to the streets.

Sterilization of homeless dogs and cats: A compassionate solution, a catalyst for change

The problem of homeless dogs and cats is a pressing concern in El Salvador, affecting the animals and local communities.

Fundacion Gratitud has been conducting free sterilization campaigns since 2021. Free sterilization programs have been proven to control the homeless animal population effectively. By implementing a trap-neuter-identify-release approach with two weeks of pre-operative and post-operative care, our program seeks to reduce the number of stray animals on the streets and their suffering.

Attention to females:

Fundagrat's compassionate program places special emphasis on caring for females who lack access to the necessary pre-operative care before spaying.

Thousands of females roam the streets of El Salvador without protection or support. Offering them this opportunity for spaying and two weeks of dedicated care before returning them safe and sound to the streets they know as home offers them hope for a better future...

It is important to note that the dogs are returned to their original territory with a distinctive pink bandana that reads, "I'm spayed. Will you adopt me?".

The program ensures that territorial fights are minimized for returning animals while avoiding the stress of adapting to new environments.

Breaking cycles:

A significant advantage of spaying females is that it breaks the vicious cycles that perpetuate the suffering of homeless dogs and cats. Females will no longer be chased by packs of males or be forced to give birth on sidewalks while fighting for their health. In addition, these procedures increase their chances of being adopted by responsible and loving families, allowing them a better life.

Reintegration into family streets:

Despite receiving the necessary care during their stay, most homeless cats and dogs end up back on the streets. Each time they return, it is hard for us, but we recognize that the street is their only known home and that we cannot house them all. Our consolation is that they return to better health and general well-being in a difficult environment thanks to spay/neuter and aftercare initiatives.

A ripple effect of compassion:

Our spay/neuter program benefits homeless female dogs and cats and creates a ripple effect in society. Reducing overpopulation it indirectly minimizes pressure on animal shelters and rescues that struggle to take in increasing numbers of abandoned animals. In addition, this program contributes to cultivating a more compassionate society in which empathy for all living things becomes normal.

Our program addresses the specific vulnerabilities of homeless female dogs and cats and offers hope to these unfortunate creatures. This program provides better health conditions even if they return to the streets by focusing on spaying and neutering and providing comprehensive care before and after surgery.

We can create lasting change for animals in need and our communities!

Reintegration into familiar streets:

Despite receiving the necessary care during their stay, the majority of homeless dogs and cats end up returning to the streets.
